Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. co-founder Jack Ma, who has rarely been seen in public during the past two and a half years, has made his first appearance in months on the Chinese mainland.

Ma on Monday toured a private school in Alibaba’s hometown Hangzhou, according to a post published the same day on the school’s official WeChat account.

The outspoken billionaire largely disappeared from the public eye since late 2020, shortly after making harsh comments about regulators in a speech in October. The $34.5 billion IPO of Alibaba-affiliate Ant Group Co. Ltd. was blocked at the last minute by regulators in November that year. Ma recently relinquished his controlling rights of Ant.
