Introduction

OpenAI’s ChatGPT has taken the world by storm. Since its November launch, the chatbot has become the fastest consumer application to reach 100 million users. Although ChatGPT isn’t directly available on the Chinese market yet, its release has reignited a new round of enthusiasm for artificial intelligence (AI) in the country. A host of Chinese tech giants like Alibaba and Baidu, as well as established AI companies like Iflytek and SenseTime, have all announced plans to release ChatGPT challengers.
