Membership
The Los Angeles Review of Books has long been shaped by its members—a dedicated community of readers, many based in Los Angeles, with more across the globe, from France to Guam and the places in between. They are generous conversationalists and, as you might imagine, a well-read and inquisitive crowd. It goes without saying that it is our members who breathe life into the pages of our publication, as they sustain all that we do here at LARB.

I decided to subscribe! I am reading more than I ever have in my life.
I feel like LARB has provided me with so much, from knowledge to community. The further I get out from graduate school, the more I cherish additional spaces to discuss and enjoy literature with brilliant and interesting people. In a time of rampant anti-intellectualism and defunding of the arts, I think it’s critical we support and protect literary organizations.
I joined LARB in 2018 because even with their free essays online, I still craved the tactility of their print issues. I’ve remained a member because LARB is both uniquely intelligent and bighearted. From their freely available essays to their welcoming Book Club, they are simultaneously highbrow and caring.
Not only did the first LARB Editor’s Salon start off with an excellent choice of California voices, but it was also warm and welcoming without any elite pretension.
I have been a member of LARB since January 2021. The Book Club is perfect: a lively conversation characterized by enthusiasm and literature-critical observations ensues for about one hour. [It’s] an excellent way to get to know new books and like-minded readers.
